Our journey

From a shared interest in technology to a growing international business

Appharu started long before it had a name. Two school friends were teaching themselves web development, and the hobby slowly turned into a business. Since then we have built websites for some of Nepal's best-known news organisations and opened a second company in Singapore.

The early days
Where it began
At school we spent our free time learning web development, trying out ideas and taking on small projects whenever someone asked. We learned by doing, and by fixing what we got wrong. Those years are where Appharu really started.
2017
Appharu is founded
Turup Sangroula and Ishant Sitaula registered Appharu in 2017 and turned their side projects into a proper company, with real clients and real deadlines.
2019
A change in leadership
Ishant left in 2019 to start a company of his own. Turup took on full responsibility for Appharu and has led it as CEO ever since, taking on new projects and building up the team.
Nepal's news media
Building for the newsroom
Much of our growth has come from Nepal's media. We have designed and built websites and publishing systems for established news outlets. These sites have to stay up when traffic jumps during big stories, publish quickly and stay secure. It is still some of the work we are best at.
2023
Appharu Pte. Ltd. in Singapore
In 2023 we set up Appharu Pte. Ltd. in Singapore so we could work more easily with clients outside Nepal. Nepal is still home, and Singapore gives us a base for international projects and outsourcing work.
Today
Still growing
We now have a team across Nepal and Singapore working on web development and other digital services, and we are adding new people. The way we work hasn't changed: understand the client, do the job properly, and keep the relationship going long after launch.

Turup Sangroula

Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer, Appharu

Turup Sangroula has been part of Appharu's story from the very beginning. His interest in web development during his school years eventually led him to co-found Appharu in 2017.

Since then he has led the company through every stage of its growth: taking full responsibility for its direction, building digital platforms for many of Nepal's established news organisations, and establishing Appharu Pte. Ltd. in Singapore in 2023.
